Casio G-Shock has done a fantastic job at introducing new models and new iterations to the G-Shock collection last year. Growing the brand while making sure to stay true to the roots that this brand has always been about – accurate digital (or at least half digital), awesome features and tough looking watches. There is some of the new G-Shock series captured my attention last year and one of them are G-Shock GA-500 series and G-Shock GA-700 series. We are going to a dive down a little bit about these two G-Shock series.
G-Shock watches are beloved by enthusiasts, athletes, collectors, and those that are looking for a rugged and damn near indestructible watch that isn’t going to set them back a pretty penny. Originally only introduced and available in Japan, both the G-Shock GA-500 and GA-700 series went on to have a tremendous amount of success in the primary and secondary collector markets.
The success was so great and have been absolutely red-hot on the G-Shock fans ever since the first rolled out. If you’ve been on the hunt for the perfect entry-level analog/digital watch to start your G-Shock collection, you need to look no further than these two series from G-Shock.
But how do you pick the right one to move forward with?
Let’s dive right in!
Highlighting the interesting features of the G-Shock GA-500 Series
The G-Shock GA-500 series make its debut in August, 2016. When you get right down to it, I think they has to be one of the most impressive analogs/digital hybrid watches G-Shock has ever put out as well as one of the most visually stunning.
The design of the G-Shock GA-500 series is inspired by urban sports. With its bold round face and cross design, the new GA-500 series features a big round face with a cross shape design that gathers the look of a wheel on a bike or skateboard.
The front face has a 3D index and analog hands, LCD display and inset dial, while the side buttons have a slanted, streamlined shape to reduce contact with the wrist.
GA-500 series is a chunky watch – with dimensions and weight are approximately 57.6 × 48.9 × 17.1 mm and 75 grams. It’s a little bit chunkier than more regular G-Shock watches, the GA-500 series likely is going to capture attention anywhere you decide to wear it.
This is the kind of watch that will have people that usually wear Rolex’s or some other “dinner watch” on a daily basis cruising up to you and picking your brain about the GA-500, and really it isn’t going to take you very much effort whatsoever to convince them to get one of their own.
This is the kind of watch that those looking to upgrade their style are going to want to slap on their wrists (thanks to the “hubcap look” that it brings to the table). But it’s also the kind of watch that you wouldn’t have any trouble whatsoever plowing down raging rapids, climbing up the face of a mountain, or freezing your backside off in the Antarctic with, either.
This is one of the toughest watch options in the entire G-Shock line. We are talking about a watch here that has extreme waterproofing down to 200 m, is as shock resistant as any other in the G-Shock collection, and can quite literally be driven over by a tractor-trailer truck without coming apart at the seams.
It’s possible to effortlessly read the accurate time on this watch it 31 different time zones, and a daylight savings mode, home city/Time Zone mode, and stopwatch, alarm, and timekeeper makes this one of those “must-have” pieces for budding collectors.
G-Shock GA-500 Series – The Models
At the moment, the GA-500 Series available in six different models and colors. The first three models include the GA-500-1A (black), the GA-500-1A4 (black and red), and the GA-500-7A (white).
The newest models of GA-500 series is The Punching Pattern of GA-500P series; including The GA-500P-1A (black and blue with a gray upper band), The GA-500P-3A (olive drab/green with black upper band) and GA-500P-4A (red with a black upper band).
With the relatively a low price tag , the GA-500 it’s prefect for you to start to own an entry level analog G-Shock series. See here for update price from amazon.
Highlighting the impressive features of the G-SHock GA-700 series
G-Shock GA-700 series first introduced in in November, 2016 with designed that look a little bit more like the GA series that you are probably used to seeing at the entry-level price point of this lineup. But if you look closer, the front-facing LED backlight button in a similar style to the G-Shock Rangeman series or G-Shock Mudmaster series and look like a mix between two newly G-Shock released models, the GAX-100’s LCD layout and the GA-500’s hands.
I think The GA-700 will be a the main option for an affordable analog-digital model with a front back-light button in their line up.
The GA-700 is a hybrid analog/digital as well and just a little bit smaller, a little bit thinner, and a little bit less “in your face” when it comes to design and aesthetics. The dimensions is 57.5 x 53.4x 18.4mm with 69g weight – so it’s little bit bigger than GA-500 series.
This is the kind of watch that looks a lot like what the SEAL Team Six operators would have worn the when they go on a covert mission, as well as the kind of watch that looks like it would fit perfectly on the wrist of a very modern-day James Bond, offering the ideal blend of performance and high design that these watches have become known for.
A deep 3D index provides plenty of protection from dents, dings, and day to day wear and tear, but you were going to be able to take advantage of the traditional G-Shock protection that this watch brings to the table just like any other.
Waterproofing down to 200 m, shock resistance technology that eliminates any pickups in accuracy along the way, and the ability to be practically crushed without looking any worse for the wear are just some of the highlights that this watch brings to the table.
G-Shock GA-700 Series – The Models
At the moment, there were three different models to choose. The with the black and red GA-700-1AJF (with positive LCD display), GA-700-1BJF (Black), and GA-700-4AJF (Red).
In November,2016 Casio China released the G-Shock GA-700CX-4A, a special edition watches with a red, black, and gold color scheme to celebrate the Year of the Rooster for 2017. The watches feature red bezels and bands, black faces, and gold indexes, hands, and accents. They have a custom stainless steel case back with an engraved rooster image and include commemorative tins and boxes, designed by Shangguan Zhe.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for some special colab models and some crazy colorways in the future. It’s look like we are looking forward to 2017 being the year of the GA-700.
A little bit cheaper than the GA-500, the GA-700 is a better option for those looking to get into the swing of things without spending any more than $100 a new G-Shock watch – which also makes it ideal for those that are looking to give an iconic brand timepiece to someone as a gift. G-Shock GA-500 VS GA-700
Here’s a quick comparison between two watches.
Both G-Shock’s are absolutely beautiful, unique in their design things to be hybrid analog/digital technology, and are exactly the kinds of watches that can take a tremendous licking and keep on ticking – so much, so that you might find yourself wearing these out in the great outdoors, even more than you find yourself wearing them in the board room (though they both would look at place in either locale)!
However, G-Shock GA-500 series looks better styling and reflect your free lifestyle and worn by someone who likes to explore and enjoys the great sports. One other things, the GA-500 has more colors option.
But of course, the choice of these two great watches, back to the person and your taste, doesn’t it?. At the end of the day, you really can’t go wrong with either the G-Shock GA-500 OR the GA-700.
So, how about it? which one is your favorites?
