Recently, at CES 2017, Casio unveiled their new rugged smartwatch known as the Casio Protrek Smart WSD-F20. The new Casio Smartwatch WSD-F20 is likely the next generation tough and tactical smartwatch from Casio and adopts a similar robust design compared to its predecessor, the Casio WSD-F10 series.
The Casio Protrek WSD-F20 fixes and improve on its predecessor – Casio WSD-F10 series; one of them is by adding GPS functionality. Also, Casio is including the ability to download maps from Mapbox — a mapping platform used by apps like Foursquare, Pinterest, and Strava, and use them offline in sequential with a low-power GPS sensor and color maps.
Casio has also added applications and other functions, and tools from Casio — like an altimeter, barometer, compass, and more. So, you can record the path traveled while trekking, hiking, cycling, kayaking, fishing, winter and water sports and so on. These functionalities should make the watch a lot more useful as a device independent of a smartphone.
The WSD-F20 has a new design that looks a little tougher than the previous model since the smartwatch for outdoor usage; Casio has added a protective bezel and button guards on the watch, which lends to its MIL-STD-810G – United States military standard issued rating. They are also adding an “anti-fouling coating” on the touchscreen, which helps reduce fingerprint stains. See here for more features of Casio WSD-F20.
The new Protrek Smartwatch WSD-F20 will run Android Wear 2.0; an upcoming revamp of the current smartwatch operating system. Its predecessor, the Casio WSD-F10, likely will receive the update when Google officially rolls it out.
The new Casio Protrek Smart WSD-F20 comes in two color version; WSD-F20-RG (Orange) and WSD-F20-BK (Black), and will be available on April 21, 2017.
However, with the $500 USD price tag (the same price as the WSD-F10 when it first release) is quite expensive for a smartwatch, but hopefully, they slashed the price a little bit like WSD-F10 series price reduction recently.
